Recommended Vaccines for Adults

Vaccinations are something you should acquire no matter your age. The greatest way to ensure long-term health is to follow an immunization schedule throughout your life.

Aside from the mandated COVID shots, of course, here are a few vaccines to keep track of:

  • Influenza vaccine
The CDC advises annual flu shots for everyone 6 months and older. It is especially important for people with chronic health conditions, pregnant women, and older adults.
  • Tdap vaccine
This stands for tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis (whooping cough). All three can be fatal. Tdap is usually given at age 11 or 12. It protects against tetanus (lockjaw), pertussis (pertussis) and diphtheria (breathing issues).
  • Pneumococcal vaccine
An infection with pneumococcal bacteria can lead to pneumonia, meningitis, blood infections, and death. All people 65 and above should receive two pneumococcal shots.
  • Shingles Shots
The CDC advises healthy people aged 50 and older to get the Shingrix vaccine. It’s given twice. While not life-threatening, shingles can be very painful.
  • Human papillomavirus (HPV)
HPV is a common virus that can lead to cancer. This vaccine is suggested for ages 11-12. The FDA has approved the HPV vaccine Gardasil 9 for males and females ages 9 to 45.

Some childhood immunizations lose potency over time. So, being on top of things is critical. Check with your doctors and healthcare professionals—such as the ones in our pharmacy in Brownsville, Texas—to make sure you are up to date on recommended vaccines.

Aside from keeping track of your vaccines, knowing where to acquire them and other life-saving medical supplies is essential to your overall wellness.
